I am excited to share a treatment we are now offering at TAW Center called Micro-needing! I know the name sounds a little scary but it’s really not bad at all. This is a revolutionary treatment used to treat acne scars, wrinkles, hyperpigmentation and more. In this article, you will get the 411 on this innovative skin treatment.

So what is Micro-needling aka “Collagen Induction Therapy”?

Before getting into what it is, it is important to review the skin’s anatomy. Don’t worry—I’ll keep it simple.

The skin, which is the largest organ in the body, has two important layers: the epidermis and the dermis. The epidermis is the top layer of the skin and the dermis is the lower layer of the skin where collagen and elastin are located. Micro-needling works by stimulating the dermis to rebuild collagen, while preserving and improving the look of the epidermis.
Micro-needling is a non-surgical procedure where fine needles (like the ones used by acupuncturists) are inserted in the skin creating micro-openings in the top layer of the skin. These micro-injuries trigger a natural healing response, allowing the skin to create new collagen and elastin. This treatment will require the application of serums containing anti-oxidants, vitamins, growth factors or hyaluronic acid. The lower layers of the skin will absorb these nutrients, inducing the regrowth of collagen (the structural component of the skin).

Just imagine a sponge you soak in water with a variety of nutrients, the sponge will plump and get heavier. This is exactly what will happen to the skin after few treatments.

One of the many benefits of micro-needling is that it works from the inside out, leaving the epidermis intact, unlike ablative lasers that evaporate the top layers of the skin, losing the natural look.

So, who would be a good candidate for the micro-needling?

Micro-needling can be applied with patient of any skin color and type. It is an excellent treatment for clients who are looking for the following:

• Improve skin tone and texture
• Improve wrinkles and fine lines
• Decrease appearance of scars, acne scars and stretch marks
• Improve skin discoloration or hyperpigmentation

Clinical studies have shown that micro-needling is an excellent treatment for hair loss and cellulite reduction as well.

Collagen Induction Therapy can target problem areas such as delicate skin around the eyes, vertical lip lines, dark spots, and melasma. The downtime for this treatment is little to none, making it very advantageous for you!

Most micro-needling sessions are done in a series of four or six treatments, two to four weeks apart. Micro-needling will continue to rebuild collagen for up to 6 months after the treatment.

At this point you’re probably asking yourself… “What should I expect during the treatment?”

If my client has a low pain threshold, I will recommend the numbing cream to be applied at least one hour prior to start the procedure, to make it more comfortable. I start the treatment by cleansing and degreasing the skin. A serum(s) is applied according to the skin condition we are treating. A specialized pen containing the micro-needles will be used to create tiny openings in the skin. Remember, your skin is a sponge and will start soaking the nutrients in during the treatment. The treatment is completed with the appropriate LED light treatment to help heal the skin, and will finish with application of sunblock and moisturizer.

What to expect after micro-needling:

Most of my clients have reported mild redness to the skin for up to 48 hours. It is possible to have pin-point bleeding during the treatment. The overall results are well worth having the treatment.

It is very important to remember that micro-needling treatment varies from person to person. The home skin care and protection you provide to your skin will help extend the results, however, maintenance treatment is recommended every four to six months.

Just one of many…

Here is just one example of my experience providing this treatment: I have a client who has dealt with melasma (dark spots) on her forehead for many years and very few things seem to improve it. She’s had Photo-Facials done along with chemical peels and microdermabrasion but none seem to really help. We have only done 2 treatments so far and already there is significant improvement in the tone of her skin!

Performing micro-needling on my clients has been very rewarding. I have been doing aesthetics for about 8 years now and in that time I have never seen any treatment with such little to no downtime give such significant results. As a medical aesthetician, trust me when I say I get excited when something is truly working for my clients.

It really is impressive.

Now, for all you needle-phobics out there, there is an alternative treatment that does not require needles yet gives similar results. The treatment is called Needle-Free Collagen Induction Therapy or Virtual Mesotherapy. It uses Electroporation which is the application of a painless micro-current that opens the pores of the cells and allows the nutrients and anti-oxidants to be absorbed. The process is similar to the Micro-needling; however it requires a minimum of ten treatments and they are provided every one to two weeks.

Both treatments, Micro-needling and Needle-Free Collagen Induction Therapy are provided at The Aesthetic & Wellness Center. Call today to obtain more information or to set up your skin analysis.

Collagen Induction Therapy

beautiful

Collagen Induction Therapy (CIT) is a medical technique which involves the administration of vitamins, antioxidants and hyaluronic acid by a series of micro injections into the mid layer of the skin. This non-invasive procedure infuses the dermis with a nourishing combination of these nutrients to help restore and maintain a radiant, youthful and glowing appearance of the skin.

This procedure has been used in Europe and South America for many decades and has become an essential component of skin rejuvenation services.

CIT can be used to cover the entire skin surface of the face (including difficult areas such as upper and lower eyelids), neck, décolletage and hands.

These micro-injections are very superficial, and deep enough to get essential nutrients to the skin. Side effects are generally limited to bruising and swelling.

The benefits of CIT are:
• increased hydration
• improved moisture
• improve skin tone
• promote collagen stimulation
• increase skin nutrition
• remove superficial lines and wrinkles
• reduce free radical damage

The effects are a healthier, firmer and rejuvenated skin. CIT compliments dermal fillers and Botox in these areas. There are three types of Collagen Induction Therapy:

• Micro-needling-CIT
• Needle Free-CIT
• Mesoglow

For more information, visit our Micro-needling and Needle Free-CIT pages. Mesoglow is a variety of Micro-needling; the nutrients are injected deeper in the skin. This technique is ideal for reduction of localized fat in the face or rest of the body.
