How to Succeed with Your New Year Resolutions

How to Succeed with Your New Year Resolutions

The start of a new year is a great time to think about breaking bad habits, starting fresh and live a healthier life.

The path to succeed in your New Year resolutions is not an easy one, but one with many obstacles and challenges along the way

If one of your resolutions is to achieve a healthier you, here are five tips to help you reach to your goal:

Losing Weight

Weight Loss is the number one New Year resolution. A large number of people start with an ambitious plan to lose weight. However, if there are no signs of success during the first few weeks, the motivations disappear, making them return to their old habits.

The key to losing weight is to set realistic short-term goals. You want to lose fat mass and not muscle mass and more importantly to keep the weight off.

If you are struggling to lose weight or you are at a plateau, you can find the help you need at The Aesthetic & Wellness Center.

Eat Better / Cook Healthy

Bad eating habits are tough to break. After a season of indulging in foods high in fat and refined sugars, people find it somewhat difficult to stop eating these types of foods.

The key to start eating healthier is to pre-plan your meals and eat a well balanced diet.

You do not have to become a chef. You can find many websites with simple recipes to prepare. Bring your lunch to work every day. Not only can it save you money, but it will help you keep on track.

Exercise

Exercise does not have to sound as a punishment to our body. Physical activity is not only important with weight loss; it helps maintain your weight, improves the cardiovascular system, strengthens muscles and bones, and releases chemicals from the brain helping with mood and stress relief.

The question is… What can you do today to be more active? There is a lot you can do with just what is around you. First, find activities you enjoy.

The key is to set fitness goals that are realistic, achievable, and well-defined. Most importantly, have fun; you won’t even realize you are exercising.

Quit smoking

It is well known that tobacco use can cause many serious chronic medical conditions besides lung cancer. It also makes you spend a lot of money that you could still have in your pocket.

Today there are many treatments available to help you quit smoking. Talk to your doctor. It is never too late to start living a healthier life.

Get an annual check-up

Seeing your doctor at least once a year can help prevent, or at least help with early detection of, important medical conditions such as high blood pressure, diabetes, high cholesterol and certain types of cancers. Playing an active role in you own health is one of the most important steps an individual should take to achieve a healthier life.
